Weekend Music Chill

Since I haven't been blogging regularly, I have also not been posting weekend music.  This is a mistake.  One of my favorite bands from the 1970s was ELO; here is some of their lesser known work that I have always admired.  For some reason, I can't get an ELO channel to produce consistent results for a Pandora channel.

Kuiama

Here is the 10538 Overture, which seemed an appropriate ending tune for American Hustle, a film that I really liked.  Jennifer Lawrence pleasantly surprised in a supporting role.

Weekend Music Chill - Covers

For the life of me, I can't understand why I haven't posted these two versions of the rock classic "Mony, Mony."  First, the original with Tommy James and the Shondells.

And the remake with Billy Idol.

Comments welcome.

Weekend Music Chill

This week's music somehow snuck into my 80's mellow station on Pandora, even though released in 2005.  I find this version pretty relaxing.

Here is Sufjan Stevens with the Adult Contemporary Version of his hit Chicago.

From the same Pandora station here is Bryan Ferry with Don't Stop the Dance:

P.S. I seeded this Pandora station with a single song and it has been by far my consistent and favorite.

Weekend Music Chill

Holidays are over, we are back at work.  Time to mellow out with The Wallflowers.

One Headlight.

Three Marlenas.

I especially like the pictures of Marlene Dietrich in the second video.

Weekend Music Chill

We are on vacation in Arizona and still celebrating Christmas, so I am posting some more Christmas music for the weekend.

Here is Mannheim Steamroller with Angels We Have Heard on High

Road Dawg turned me on to Trans Siberian Orchestra.

Happy New Year.  Hope your Christmas was great.  Mrs. Daddy loves Christmas lights, so the videos are for her as well.

Weekend Music Chill

We have been doing some road-tripping lately and it reminded me of all the times I hit the road when I was in the Navy.  In the day, The Boss was on my favorite cassettes.  Here are two of my favorites to drive to:

Sherry Darling.

Cadillac Ranch.

Weekend Music Chill

Been listening to more old school music lately.  Loved the Allman Brothers in the day.  Two of my favorites posted for your listening enjoyment.

One Way Out.

Midnight Rider. And no, that stupid insurance commercial hasn't ruined it for me.

I replaced the video for this song as I noticed a confederate flag in the previously posted video.

Weekend Music Chill

Going for a covers edition this weekend.  Dean once mentioned that The Monkees' "Last Train to Clarksville" would sound great covered in a country-western style.  I found this cover by Flatt & Scruggs:

A more well know version is this bluegrass rendition by the Grascals, complete with fiddles.

I can't help but post the original by The Monkees.

Weekend Music Chill

This week has been exhausting, so I need some music that I can really kick back and relax with.  I started a Pandora Station with a single song "You Don't Miss Your Water" off The Byrds Sweetheart of the Rodeo album, and it has been a goldmine of new music for me.

Here is David Ryan with Pearls on a String.

From the same station is Rainy Weather Friend by David Mead

Weekend Music Chill

Been listening to some 60s music of late and I haven't done a covers edition in a while.  This song was actually first released by Gladys Knight, but I think you'll agree that most people think of Marvin Gaye when you mention "Heard It Through the Grapevine."

My favorite cover is a bit long, but I love these guys as anyone who has suffered Karaoke night at The Dingo will attest.  Here is CCR with their cover, and in my humble opinion, an improvement.

Regardless of which version you prefer, this is one of the all time great rock and roll songs.

Weekend Music Chill

I took the week off from work and hung around our hometown and mostly relaxed.  Thought I would share some of the favorite chillin' music that Mrs. Daddy and I enjoyed on our "staycation."

Here is Ottmar Liebert with 3 Women Walking.

And here is Herb Alpert with The Lonely Bull (El Toro Solo).

Weekend Music Chill

This weekend's music is very mellow, from a Pandora station that I started with a single tune, "Abraham's Daughter" by Arcade Fire.  For some reason the station ended up playing a lot of Lana Del Rey, but I have been enjoying Florence + The Machine, a mostly two girl band that has been getting some airplay.

Here is "Never Let Me Go".

From the Same Station, here is Jem with "It's Amazing."

Weekend Music Chill

As Filner's support dwindles even among Democrats, I thought I would reprise a song from one of my favorite bands, The Black Keys who perform Lonely Boy in this video.

I had to take a hiatus from blogging while putting together the final paper for my certificate in federal CIO competencies. I turned that in today, if the paper passes then I earn my certificate. I hope to be able to blog daily with more focus on local issues, although I do not intend to neglect national policy issues either.

Weekend Music Chill

I have been listening music with higher energy levels of late.  I had some medical difficulties about three months ago and am starting to feel like my old self again.  Listening to decent music like this helps.

Here are Caesars with Jerk It Out.

Jack White's band The Raconteurs does a nice job with Steady As She Goes.

Hope you enjoy.

Weekend Music Chill

I found a new artist on my "Gold on the Ceiling" Pandora station, so I am sharing.  Here is Patrick Sweany with "Them Shoes."

And another decent tune, "Sleeping Bag."

The second song reminds a little of the Rolling Stones' 60s sound.

Weekend Music Chill

I am feeling good about the country today.  Obama's agenda, whatever it was, is bogged down in the land of Scandalabra.  Oil and gas drilling in North America might save the economy.  The internal contradictions of the ACA are becoming so glaring, that its failure is becoming obvious to the masses.  Time for some party music:

First, a tune that I built a new Pandora station around, "Glad You Came" by The Wanted.

And this one for my brother-in-law, who thinks he still has the moves.

Weekend Music Chill

This weekend's music starts slow, but is quite rousing. It is very different from what I normally listen to.

Weekend Music

This weekend's music is a reminder that we have seen much, much tougher times and far worse threats to the Republic than the random violence of a few deluded maniacs.

He is trampling out the vintage where the grapes of wrath are stored.  Indeed.

Weekend Music Chill

Hiatus from blogging for school, but I hope to start up again this weekend.  I wanted to get some good music to kick it off, in the Indie Folk genre, which reminds me of old school country.  Here are the Decemberists with Down By The Water

Here are The Lumineers with Ho Hey

Yeah, Misha, you're my sweetheart.

Weekend Music Chill

I have been hearing Indie Folk on some of the rock stations and I also haven't done a covers edition in a while.  The Indie Folk genre seems evocative of the folk style of the fifties and sixties.  One of my favorite songs from that era is Pete Seeger and The Weavers's original rendition of Kisses Sweeter than Wine.

Here is the version popularized by Jimmy Rodgers, with Honeycomb tacked on to the end.

I think there is no contest here, the Weavers original is one of the great American songs of the 20th century. The wikipedia article on its origins is interesting.
